FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How many births do you document per month?
I am only available to book 2 -3 births per month due to the unpredictable nature of birth and being on call for those births. Early booking is recommended.
Do you photograph nudity?
Birth is an intimate event. I honor that. When booking me as your Birth Photographer, we will meet to discuss your expectations and boundaries. Some clients prefer above the waist shots and modest nursing angles, and others want the complete vaginal birth photographed. It is YOUR CHOICE! It is your birth experience and your baby’s birth story to share. We can talk about what is best to wear during a birth and various “what if’s”. My goal is to ensure you feel comfortable with my presence at your baby’s birthh
What photos and video footage will you share online and on social media?
Privacy is important to certain clients. I cover your birth story for your memories, not to boost my portfolio. My portfolio is vast enough. I do not publish any images or video footage without my clients explicit consent to do so. I do not publish photos of baby’s private parts, those are always blurred out. The only exception to this is a completely unidentifiable image (ie: hands or baby’s feet). Should you give consent to share your photos publicly I will blur out personal information like information on hospital arm badges, medical charts etc.
Can I hire you for a Scheduled Cesarean?
Yes, absolutely. I will be on-call for your birth as I am with a natural delivery should labour start spontaneously at an earlier date than planned.
What if my planned Natural Birth turns into a Cesarean?
Whether your birth go as planned or not at all as expected, I will still discreetly document this momentous event. As a Birth Photographer, I am capturing your birth experience, no matter how it unfolds. Most hospitals will allow a Birth Photographer in theatre, but should they refuse for any reason, I will be right outside ready to photograph your baby’s first moments, meeting the family and the mother-baby reunion. No matter how your baby’s birth turns out, I will make sure your memories are beautifully documented.
What if you are unable to come to the birth?
If for any reason I can not attend your baby’s birth, I have a qualified SABPA (South African Birth Photographers Association) – registered Photographer as back-up photographer I call in to stand in for me at the birth. They will be fully briefed on what your expectations are and what to capture. You do not pay extra for this photographer’s services. All footage still goes to me and I will still be delivering your product to you directly.
How does Covid-19 affect your Birth Photography?
Birth Photographers are only allowed access at certain hospitals around South Africa currently. This changes as the policies regarding Covid in the hospitals change. Feel free to contact me to enquire whether access is allowed at the hospital you plan to birth at. If you are planning a Home Birth my presence at the birth is dependant upon your Midwife’s consent. Before entering a Birth space, I wear a 3 layered mask and a visor-mask (if required). I sanitise my hands, attire and equipment before entering as well.
