There are so many different Photography options available when you are about to have a baby. You can book a Maternity-, Birth-, Fresh 48-, Posed Newborn-, Lifestyle Newborn or even just a family shoot. How do you choose which Photo Shoot option will suit you best? Let’s compare Birth Photography to booking a Fresh 48 shoot.
Birth Photography includes the documenting of the birth story of your baby. The Birth Story can start from the moment you go into Labour until the birth of your baby. In documenting the birth the Birth Photographer will not interfere with the birth scene in any way. No items will be moved by the photographer and no one will be asked to pose or re-enact any moment. The Birth Photographer’s goal is to convey the true emotion filled birth event.
A Fresh 48 shoot will take place within 48 hours after the birth of the baby. The Fresh 48 shoot will most likely take place while baby and mom are still in hospital, birthing facility or at home (in-case of a home birth). A Fresh 48 session will capture early moments during their first hours earth-side. The bonding process between mom, dad and baby will be documented with the focus on showcasing the baby and capture all those magical firsts with baby after birth. The first feed, the first diaper change, baby all snuggled up in the bassinet, hugs and kisses from mom and dad or the process of leaving the hospital will discreetly be documented.
All the tiny details of baby like their hands, feet and ears, tiny fingernails and belly button will be captured. A lot of parents choose to only have the Fresh 48 session done the day after the birth in order to give them a minute to collect themselves after birth and rest a bit. It is worth documenting these first moments of your baby’s life as their face will change so quickly within the first week after birth. You will very soon forget how cute and tiny they once were.
Birth Photography and a Fresh 48 sessions complement each other and almost goes hand in hand. I love including Fresh 48 session moments in telling the Birth Story as there are so many happy and magical moments that take place after birth that I feel forms part of the happily ever after of the Birth Story.
An intriguing discussion is worth comment. I do think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but typically folks dont discuss these issues. To the next! All the best!!
